Crowned explores hair as a living archive of identity, creativity, and cultural continuity. Through large-scale tufted portraits and mixed-media works, the exhibition celebrates Black New Yorkers whose hairstyles become expressions of individuality, heritage, and pride. Inspired by people I know, encounters throughout New York City, and moments observed within everyday life, these works document the beauty and significance of self-presentation within Black communities.
